The fire-breathing “Trofeo” nameplate has found its way to the rest of the Maserati lineup and both the Ghibli and Quattroporte got the treatment with an engine upgrade and visual updates. The Levante SUV already bared the Trofeo badge before the updates came along to the Maserati models. The engine is a 3.8-litre Twin-Turbo V8 built by Ferrari and it produces an imposing 580 hp (432 kW) available at 6250 rpm and has peak torque of 730 Nm. Both models are offered with a smooth 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. This is the same engine found in the deceased Quattroporte GTS but it had 530 hp (395 kW) at its disposal.
The power from the Ferrari V8 goes to the rear-wheels on both models and propels the Ghibli Trofeo from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 Seconds whilst the Quattroporte Trofeo is a bit behind with 4.5 seconds but the top speed is the same at 326 km/h, which makes them the fastest sedans Maserati has ever produced. They get an Integrated Vehicle Control system that enhances driving dynamics, a Corsa mode which is the equivalent of sports mode in any other vehicle and comes along with a launch control feature.
The exterior is much sportier and dapper with an updated front end that has a Black Piano grille which looks aggressive, two hood air vents for better engine cooling, updated rear lights, and 21-inch aluminium Orione wheels. Given that these cars are already good looking, the Trofeo emblem gives them a much serious image that should be imposing and aggressive enough to give a good extent of a proper sports car.
The inside has some mild updates to it with new seats, engraved with the Trofeo name of the headrests. The centre infotainment screen is 10.1 inches in size on both models but still 8.4 inches on the Levante. The Maserati Intelligent Assistant is now included in the updated system which is essentially Amazon’s Alexa that acts as a voice control assistant to input sat-nav destinations and control other features in the interior.
There is still no word whether the updated Ghibli Trofeo and Quattroporte Trofeo will hit the local market anytime soon but the Levante Trofeo is available for purchase.
