If you did not know, Markus Flasch who is the CEO of BMW M has revealed on an Instagram post that the upcoming BMW M4 G82 and BMW M3 G80 will be revealed in September 2020 and both models will be offered with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Some big news has surfaced noting that on launch, the rear-wheel drive variants will be made available, and later on the M xDrive models will be on sale.
The current M3 and M4 are only available with rear-wheel drive and for the longest time, BMW M cars have been purely rear-wheel drive until the BMW M5 F90 debut with the M xDrive system which enables the driver to switch between AWD and RWD mode at will. It has been confirmed in the past that the two upcoming M models will still be available with a manual gearbox with the transmission exclusively mated with rear-wheel drive, no news on an automatic gearbox for the rear-wheel drive variant. If that’s the case with the rear-wheel drive launching first, then this shows that BMW M has not lost its roots just yet.
To our surprise just days after the new 4 series was unveiled, a leak via Bimmerpost came out of nowhere and revealed a huge kidney on what looks like the BMW M4 G82, and a lot of people expressed their disappoints on the way the grille looks.
We can’t wait for the new M3 and M4 to drop and the S58 engine that will be fitted in both models should make them formidable competitors in the sports car segment. The grille? Well, we just have to grow past that and accept it because it’s not going to disappear anytime soon.
