It’s only a matter of time that BMW releases an all-new BMW 2 Series Coupe which will be in its second generation. There are a few things that fans have pointed out for BMW on what to do for this upcoming model. Fans have urged BMW to not use its front-wheel drive platform currently used on the new 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe, on this new 2 Series Coupe. We are guessing that the design cues of the 2 Series Gran Coupe will be used on the new 2 series but hoping that they make the Coupe variant much more good looking.
The current 2 Series is admired for the fact that it has a small chassis, comes in a manual option, has great engine options and most importantly its rear-wheel drive, much like its performance variant the M2. And speaking of the M2, the upcoming codenamed “G87” M2 has been confirmed that it will still come in rear-wheel drive form and have a manual gearbox. We know very well that new BMW M models must be powerful than the previous generation Competition Pack models and, in this case, the M2 might push more than 410 hp (306 kW) which might be at least 420 hp (320 kW).
It will utilize a detuned S58 engine powering the current X3 M and X4 M which is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder. That engine should push well over 500 Nm of torque and get the car to sprint from 0-100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds. It should deliver the same performance as the M4 F82 on the track as it will be more powerful and light which should be delightful for its power-to-weight ratio.
At this point, if the M2 Coupe will be made, it should be accompanied by an M2 Gran Coupe but no confirmation of that model has been made yet. The M2 Coupe should be revealed later this year if we’re lucky enough to see the new 2 Series Coupe being revealed in a month or two. BMW knows how to make a proper performance car and the M2 has been widely known as the incarnation of the brilliant M3 E30.
