Our hearts were melted when South African car journalists got to sample the new BMW 3 series G20 here on home ground. Now we are eagerly waiting for the next generation BMW M3 codenamed G80. This will be the ultimate BMW M car ever made and it’s testing seem to have been going on for a very long time. BMW M wants this upcoming BMW M3 G80 to be the best M car to date. BMW S58 Engine

It’s a clear fact that the M3 G80 will produce an immense amount of power in order to keep up with the competition. BMW M has announced that the M3 G80 will use the newly developed S58 engine which is also found in the current X3 M and X4 M. The engine chunks out 480 hp and there might be a possibility that it produces even more on the M3 G80. An M3 G80 Competition Pack will also be expected to produce 510 hp like the X3 M and X4 M Competition Pack variants.

If you’re wondering what the S58 engine entails, it’s a 3.0 liter six-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine which has been newly developed and will serve as the heart of the upcoming BMW M models like the M2 and M4. Should be quiet interesting on how this avails on the future of BMW M cars.

We are so oblivious to how the M3 G80 will look like. Some renderings have been surfacing in recent months and we think we have figured out how it will look like. The rear bumper will look aggressive and the exhausts will look similar to the current M3 F80. The wheel design will be similar to the M performance wheels found on the BMW 3 series G20. Expect it to be much, much aggressive.

Drivetrain

It is a known fact that the M3 G80 will have four-wheel drive and that means that it will share the excellent M xDrive System with the M5 F90. The M xDrive System enables the driver to switch between 4WD and 2WD at will, meaning the traditional rear-wheel drive fun has been reserved. There is also a 4WD sport mode which drives all wheels but is rear wheel drive bias in order to give the driver the best possible driving experience.

Good news! The M3 G80 will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox in order to satisfy the M purists. BMW M was not ready to give up on the manual era with their upcoming M cars. The M3 G80 has a possibility of not ditching the M-DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) like the M5 F90. We really hope that it will still come with that excellent transmission because gear changes are so seamless, you can feel that in the current M3 F80.

We all know that the upcoming M340i will be on sale on September 2019 and it has come to our attention that the M3 G80 might be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is still in its testing stages but it seems like they are wrapping up everything and we might be treated to the reveal even earlier than expected, just maybe. Since the BMW M3’s initial release in 1980, car enthusiasts have fallen in love with it so much and we are expecting the new one to blow us away.

The M3 G80 will be launched as a standard model and Competition Pack respectively, a CS model will follow later on. Rumors suggest that BMW M is considering a CSL model which we have not seen for a very long time. Well, the new M3 G80 will surely be a powerhouse and competitors should expect a storm coming.
