2019 has arrived and oh boy is BMW taking over with new exciting models. The Bavarian automaker has really stepped up in terms of precision and design. They are always the topic in the automotive community, recently with the release of their fantastic models. Some of those models are the BMW M2 Competition Pack and M5 Competition Pack.
But there are some things that don’t please the car fanatics, which are the increment of the size of the kidney grille on the various new BMW models. We can always forgive the German giant for these inconveniences. We have drafted our Top 5 upcoming BMW models.
5. 2019 BMW Z4
Okay, at some point I might have said that the new Z4 looks like the Datsun Go but since they gave it the M sport treatment it looks rather spectacular. The Z4 was developed alongside the new Toyota Supra and as a result the M40i model shares the same platform and engine with the Supra. But it’s not really a bad thing as both cars carry a respective sports car heritage. I think the Z4 really looks epic with its muscular shape and body creases. BMW has really nailed the design with this.
Anyway the Z4 will come in three model variants: sDrive20i, sDrive30i and M40i. All are petrol engines and there’s no diesel engine offered. I want to point out how hot the M40i is. It’s powered by a 3.0L Turbocharged 6 cylinder which produces an impressive 335 hp (250 kW). The Z4 is offered with a 10.25 inch display with the latest BMW ConnectedDrive system. It comes with various driver assistance aids and digital key. Prices have yet to be announced for SA as it will arrive in the second quarter of this year.
4. BMW X3 M and X4 M
The BMW M Division has gotten their hands on two brilliant BMW models and they are about to give these models a menacing makeover. They have been teased during the past several months and it seems their reveal is coming sooner than we thought. So far I have no idea what kind of engine will power these incredible machines but I’m are guessing a 3.0L six Cylinder engine might be in consideration.
All I know is by observing the body shape of the cars, there is improvement in the aerodynamics of the cars and the typical M quad exhaust pipes. The X3 M40i and X4 M40i are already incredibly quick cars and now that BMW has made them fully fledged M cars has changed the game in the SUV segment. The X3 M and X4 M are expected to go against the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S and GLC 63S Coupe. This will surely be an epic showdown between the two German giants. More details on this will be revealed later on this year.
3. BMW X5 G05
The exquisitely beautiful SUV is on number 3 which really comes as a surprise as we never thought that BMW will ever make this car even greater to look at and appreciate. The X5 has really grown up in terms of design, technology, and power and off road capability. Over the years the X5 was the birth of all BMW SUV’s and now the father has been given the best equipment a customer could really ask for. Surprisingly enough it is one the best looking SUV’s on the market.
The BMW X5 has been announced with diesel two engines that are being offered in South Africa, the 3.0L turbo 6 Cylinder xDrive30d with 261 hp (195 kW) and 620 Nm of torque and a 3.0 L quad turbo 6 Cylinder M50d with 400 hp (295 kW) and 760 Nm of torque. The petrol engines are yet to be announced for their arrival in South Africa. You get a choice of X-line or M sport trim to go with your X5. Now all we have to do is to wait for BMW to announce a fully fledged X5 M.
2. BMW 3 series G20
Our beloved 3 series entry-level luxury sedan and BMW’s most successful model since 1975 has gotten the special treatment and is now more advanced than ever. It has been dominating its class for a very long time with its excellent engine, sporty appeal and sheer driving pleasure. The new 3 series has already landed on the shores of South Africa and is yet to be launched and might go on sale in March.
Seems to me like the new 3 series will be produced locally but I’m not so sure about that.
Currently BMW has confirmed two petrol engines and one diesel engine for South Africa. The 320d, 320i and 330i are expected to be at the launch. We will receive the M340i in September which will come with a 275 kW engine.
The BMW 3 series is first in line to come with the digital assistant which can be activated by saying ‘Hey BMW’, this allows you to control various functions using your voice. There will be various techs that will come with the 3 series like a Smartphone functionality to allow you to unlock and lock the car via your phone using NFC technology. Expect prices to start around R650 000.
1. BMW M8
The ultimate M car is nearing its arrival. BMW M is working on creating the most powerful and most expensive M car to ever exist. The wrath thunder is coming to claim its crown as the most hardcore BMW to ever exist. The BMW M8 has been teased for a very long time since the release of the 8 series concept and it has been reported that it may debut its design in the third quarter of this year. There are only little details known about the upcoming BMW M8 so we cannot say much about it.
We are guessing that the M8 engine will be a reworked 4.4 litre V8 found in the M5 F90 and power figures might be around 650 hp and it will come with the M xDrive system like in the M5 F90.
Two months back pictures of the BMW M8 Competition Pack were leaked and it was certain that the new M8 will be aggressive as hell. The M8 will surely be offered as a coupe, gran coupe and convertible. This will be the best of what BMW M can offer. South Africa will obviously be offered the taste of the BMW M8 and many of us will be running to the bank to purchase our very own M8. More details to be revealed.
