Over the years I’ve seen Mercedes AMG producing some of the greatest machines brought to mankind but none of them come close to their latest creation. The All-New Mercedes-AMG GT 4 door Coupe. It is one of the most anticipated cars of 2018. I mean, it is just glorious just by looking at it. When Mercedes AMG announced that they will be introducing a 4 door GT car I thought that they will just take a normal AMG GT Coupe and stretch it. But they have done more than that. The body looks very much sleek and beautiful, it’s not large but it’s wide and perfectly low.
The front lights are a mixture of the CLS and AMG GT Coupe lights. The back looks just like the AMG GT Coupe. Now onto something that really matters, the engine.
The AMG GT 4 door Coupe comes with three engine variants, the GT 53, GT 63 and GT 63S. Since It’s those days whereby big engines are being killed by regulations, Mercedes Benz is introducing engines with less cylinders but not compromising the power output by using hybrid technology.
Models ranging from E53, CLS 53 and AMG GT 53 have been introduced. Now, the AMG GT 53 uses a reasonable 3.0L Twin-turbocharged inline-six cylinder with a hybrid system. This sounds like the perfect recipe for efficient engines. It even produces a quite significant amount of power, 429 hp (320 kW) and 521 nm of torque. 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and does 280 km/h flat out. I am quite interested in this engine option.
Moving on to the bigger guns, the AMG GT 63 and AMG GT 63 S. Now you must note that as a GT car there’s bound to be a faster version with a lot of power and also an extreme faster version with an insane amount of power.
I will not go into detail that much I will just state the performance figures.
The AMG GT 63 comes with a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 577 hp (430 kW) and 750 nm of torque, will do 311 km/h. Seriously this is enough to compete against high-end performance saloon cars. And again it can do 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. Now I’m just amazed that there is still a much more tuned model after this wearing the S badge.
The hard-core AMG GT 63 S comes much more tuned, high-end 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 with 630 hp (470 kW) and 850 nm of torque. Top speed is 314 km/h and 0-100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. Honestly when you pay extra for the S model you get an extra 3 km/h more than the GT 63 and 0.2 seconds off 0-100 km/h sprint. But whereas drift mode and other optional equipment are offered as options on the GT 63 model, you get all the equipment as standard on the S model. So this is basically how Mercedes Benz makes money off people, typical.
Anyway the AMG GT is more like the AMG GT-R revamped to suit the driver’s needs and family’s needs… well of course if the driver has a family. It will take four people in luxurious comfort and excitement. Because it’s a Mercedes Benz, you can expect some components will be shared with the S-Class. I believe that the AMG GT 4 door Coupe will answer a lot of people’s prayers. I wish to be there when it officially launches in South Africa.
It’s like Mercedes Benz has been teasing us all along when they said that the perfect car is coming soon. I really love it like love love it. Hope Mercedes Benz SA invites me to the launch of this glorious machine.
It is without any doubt the best car to come out of 2018. It looks good, it has four doors, has powerful engines, the interior is amazing, it’s practical, has intelligent tech. It has everything you need.
I cannot say that this is the best AMG model ever made but it is the best thing Mercedes AMG has ever made. If you are still wondering how much it will cost just know that it will cost a lot of money. Engineering like this deserves a lot of cash. But rumours state the GT 63 S will cost around R3.2 million.
The best or nothing at its highest excellence.
