There is only one car company that ticks the box of luxurious SUV segment and that is Land Rover. Over the years Land Rover’s Range Rover sub-brand line has been known for the best kind of design and elegence it has in it’s class. Just to name a few of the models is the Evoque, Sport and the usual, Range Rover’s biggest SUV. Now Range Rover has gone for a different design language for their latest model, the Range Rover Velar.

With their newest model they have spilled a very distinguish design, a very sleek smooth body which emphasizes the sportiness and onroad ability. While you can guess that it shares some of the components and the skeleton of the Jaguar F-pace. Don’t be so quick to judge because we all know that the Jaguar F-pace is a very excellent car so the Velar won’t be far from excellence.

The Velar was launched on the 1st of March in London with the aim to change the face of Range Rover. If you know Range Rover’s models, you will notice that the Velar, in design, sits between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. Now it’s all excellent and good but I have to admit Range Rover is a bit of a nutcase in engine offerings. But with the Velar they have been a bit sensible.

The Velar comes with two petrol engines and three diesel engines choices.
Petrol Engines:

  • 2.0L Turbocharged 4 cylinder (SI4) 184 kW
  • 3.0L Supercharged V6 (SI6) 280 kW

Diesel Engines:

  • 2.0L Turbo-diesel 4 cylinder (TD4) 132 kW
  • 2.0L Twin-turbo diesel 4 cylinder (SD4) 177 kW
  • 3.0L Turbo-diesel V6 (SDV6) 184 kW

All engine trim models are paired with a 8-speed automatic transmission. The Velar surely has matured from it’s derived model brothers. With some offroad capability, the Velar is a combination of stylish and rough appearance. The statement will only make sense for some.

Now concerning how the exterior visuals of the Velar seem very appealing to most eyes, the interior will surely blow you away and even give your eyes a precious glance of absolute beauty. The Velar’s interior just blows one away with it’s exquisite luxurious design. With beautiful leather upholstery on the dash and the seats, this surely takes you on a journey of extreme comfort and purity. Speaking of comfort, the Velar comes standard with Adaptive air suspension which is very lovely!

The Velar has three the model variants: The Velar, Velar R-dynamics and a Velar first edition. Four specification levels are available which is the Base, S, SE, HSE. The Velar is the first Range Rover to be customizable with 17 different wheel designs, 13 different exterior designs and 3 different exterior trim packs. There is also matrix-laser LED headlights and Land Rover’s all-new InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system inside the car. This features two 10″ HD touchscreens.

The Velar can also be a proper Range Rover by taking on offroad obstacles. This is possible with the help of all-wheel drive that has intelligent driving dynamics. Meaning you can choose between sand, snow or rough dirt ride ability. Now this completes and gives it the Range Rover heart.

Reason why it has been nominated?

The Range Rover Velar’s body is of a special masterpiece, it is well designed and the way the body is so sleek with it’s sloping rootfline this just eats my heart out. We also like that the Velar is customizable is many different ways which gives the customer the ability to create a perfect Velar that suits him/her. We just love it.
